How are y'all? This week has definitely been a trip unlike any other on the mission so far. As y'all know I was transfered to Dripping Springs and it is completely opposite than all of my other areas... I'm talking like, there are hills and pine trees and it's beautiful... There are also massive houses as far as the eye can see... Like, super above averagely huge houses... I should take pictures... Crazy town.
My new companion is Elder Price from Idaho. I have seen him around the mission and he's been in my zone a couple times. He's a great guy! He has black, soul-eating eyes like my friend Jake. We get along and he's ready to work hard, so that's what matters to me.
Actually fun story about the Dripping Springs area... I live like 20 minutes outside of my area, so we are probably gonna move again this week to the only apartment complex in my area. I have been living out of my suitcase because of that... What a hassle.
Buy let's back up to my last day in the Taylor area. It was legendary. So my last dinner was with the Faith family. That, in and of itself, is a momentous occasion, because this is the guy who has ran off every other set of Elders who have ever stopped by. He acts all mean and scary.. But he actually made us Gumbo. It was pretty yum. During dinner he was just roasting me the whole time and making fun of me because I'm a little guy. He says I was bred for looks and not for strength.
🏼♂️ it is fine. He told me that it's necessary to have "gatherers" along with hunters. Lol. Anyway, by the end of the visit, I get up to shake his hand... And he goes in for a hug goodbye because he knew I was leaving. I knew that man has a heart. We were the first Elders to return and the first Elders he trusted. It was sweet..
Anywayyy, our first day in Dripping Springs was above average too. So we got out of our car to visit a less active, but there was an older gentleman outside. I asked if he wanted to see a Christmas video and he said nah...but he said they were having a Bible Study and we were welcome to join! So of course we accepted and joined about 25 Baptists at their Dinner/Bible study. The first question asked was, "Do y'all believe that Jesus is the Son of God and Savior of the world?" Of course we were happy to tell them "yes" and I think that was the password that allowed us to enter.
It was a bunch of older people and they were asking a lot of questions. Everything was very positive and hopefully they saw that we are good, happy people just trying to make others the same. The owner of the house, at our departure, told us we could stop by anytime if we needed water or something. It was a good time.
The members here are great. We got a couple possible referrals which is amazing because finding in this area can be a challenge... Wealthy people think they don't need Jesus.
Other than meeting new people, we have been doing a lot of zone leader stuff... It's a lot more than I remember! Haha, and it's a busy time of year I suppose. What a life.
- We met a guy with a skateboard deck signed by Tony Hawk.
- Everyone here is like 40 and super successful...
- Our ward is made up of several former stake presidents and like 12 former Bishops.
- Haven't even been to the city of Dripping Springs yet...
- There are roads cut out of the mountains (hills) and sometimes it feels like I'm in Utah.
So there's that, but yanno, I have learned that no matter where you are or how much money you have, the real solution to happiness is living the Gospel of Jesus Christ. That something I have seen around here already. Although, these people are very well off, they love their Savior and give their thanks to God for what they have. I believe that is what makes them happy. The church is super true and living the Principles of the Gospel brings joy and love into our lives.
Merry Christmas to all of you!
Stay warm.
Choose the Right.
I LOVE YOU.
