It's still not snowing, but it's definitely getting colder! I can feel that every morning. We hardly ever have our heater going because the neighbors all have the heat up super high and keep us nice and toasty :) I always end up leaving my beanies at people's houses... I'm down to the one that is too small for me that I will somehow never lose because I don't particularly like it. I would like a beanie crochet'd by my brother! :D Has Teej started his crocheting for winter yet? Shawn is using my blue/yellow coat.... grrrrrrrrrrrrr. I like that coat. It's got to be wayy too big for him. because it's too big for me.
It is so cool seeing all of the Christmas things going up! Weihnachten! woot woot! In the next few weeks I think all of the Christmas markets will start going up. I have heard wonderful wonderful things from the Christmas markets. The fireworks have already started to surface. About once every hour we hear a giant BANG from some Kind.... KID (german creeping into my brain Kind=Child) lighting off fireworks! And it will only happen more and more frequently until it finally peaks at Christmas/New Years! :D We already have been invited by a bunch of different families for Christmas! So don't worry about me, I'm feeling loved and I will be cared for! :)
A few weeks ago it happened ALL THE TIME where people would ask us what we think about Obama and Romney... and now it's finally over! :D ... or so we thought! Now everyone is asking us who we voted for and asking what -would have happened- if Romney would have won.. blah blah blah. I honestly hear more about American politics here in Germany than I did back in America. haha. The hype about Romney has sparked a lot of interest in the church! there have been a lot of people who have more interest in what we believe than when I first arrived in Germany. There are so many TV specials that talk about us! haha. And people THINK that they know what we believe because of the silly things they hear on TV... but at least we are being called "mormons!" by people on the street instead of "Zeugen Jehovas!" (people always think that we are Jehova's witnesses... dumb) It's good to know that we are 14MILLION members. We are not some cult. We are normal people! :D
I have finished with the New Testament and I am now moving back to the Book of Mormon! It has been so long since I have read the BoM! like a couple months! haha. I loved loved loved the New Testament! It was such a testimony building time. So now it looks like I will be moving through the Book of Mormon, then reading D&C, and then PoGP, and then..... the Old Testament?? The Old Testament looks like such a challenge! I want to read it though... It has so much in it! Muslims love it! and I don't really know what exactly is in it... haha. So that's one of the things that I want to do in my time here: read the complete Standard Works! It's kind of difficult when my personal study time is usually used for investigators, district meetings, and church lessons (we teach the gospel principals class). There's never enough time in the day for everything!
Haha. My problems with the language are mostly because it's getting too integrated into my head. I start to THINK in German but then sometimes English... so it just messes with my brain when I have two languages that I am pretty good at speaking... My brain is just a bit confused at times :P My German is just often tested because I, Elder Braden Thorkelson, am the senior companion... I (Elder Thorkelson) am the one with the greater knowledge of the language. I can't just ask my companion for help on the language like I used to be able to do :P
Bank Card: CHECK
Shoes: not yet check...
Jacket that isn't gigantic?.... not yet check. haha. I want a jacket/coat that fits me... and doesn't drown me in fabric :P the sleeves go past my fingertips and I'm pretty sure that if I were to gain 100 lbs and then maybe I would start to fill out this jacket :) haha.
But as for other things for Christmas... ummmmm.... a beanie from Teej would be legit, but I don't know if that would be possible... maybe a video of the family on a flashdrive or something. We have a little portable dvd player that I could watch it on :)
I spent more time on this email... i feel accomplished with it.
Love,
Elder Braden Thorkelson
