This is Elder Shawn Thorkelson reporting my experiences of the Mission life.
Well first of all... I´m in freaking Mexico. lol. Never planned to ever be here in my life, but 10 days in and I am still feeling good. Its really nice here! The weather is great! (unless I´m wearing my suit) But luckily the rainy season is just starting. The last few days there´s been a thunderstorm every night for a couple hours and the lightning is crazy nuts. And Birds! There are so many cool birds. And these green parrots are all over causing a ruckus. Silly birds.
Oh, and a few days in, there were Earthquake sirens going off at 2:30 in the morning... Good thing I had ear plugs in, so I could have a nice sleep.. also, a good thing that the eathquake was pretty far away and hardly anyone felt anything... In a real emergency, me and all mis compañeros would be dead. lol. Whoops.
The food is keeping me alive...
Haha, actually it´s not bad. For those who know me, you know I hardly eat anything, but I think I am eating more here than I did at home.. Maybe I will gain weight haha... that would be a funny thing.
As far as the CCM (the Mexico MTC) it´s pretty fun. But really I have my companions to thank. They are all super cool. We get along really well and have a good time, while also following the rules and such. There are some times that we spend more time laughing than studying... but that´s fine okay. hahah. The first day, our teachers come in speaking 90% Spanish. lol, like okay, sorry to anyone who didn´t take any classes in high school. But really in the end I think it is a good thing. I can understand most of what they say now and it has only been a little over a week. I am learning things like crazy. Although, understanding Spanish and speaking spanish are two completely different things. I will get there though. I believe. haha. It´s a fun thing.
Welllll I am running out of time but, anyway I miss you all! Just dont forget that I am still alive! Just because I am gone doesn´t mean you shouldn´t talk to me! haha. In fact, it´d be real dandy.
Oh wait... The reason my subject is that cardio is not good... Well it´s obvious. Cardio is not good. haha. But here in Mexico City the altitude is like 7500 ft, and I played like 10 minutes of basketball and died. It was so bad. Also, so many kids are getting bloody noses and I assume it´s the altitude... A kid even did in the temple today. We had to wait 20 minutes for him to fix it. What a hassle. anyway. bye bye. :)
Loves,
Elder Thorkelson
